Vaughan is one of the few places in the region that is both a starting point and a destination. People leave Woodbridge, Maple and Thornhill for the airport and for downtown, and just as many arrive from elsewhere for a wedding, a show or a weekend with the family. The extension of Highway 427 north through the city changed the airport run considerably, giving Vaughan a direct line to the terminals that used to mean fighting the 400 and the 401 first.
Airport transfers across the city
Woodbridge, Vellore Village, Sonoma Heights and Kleinburg sit on the western side and reach Pearson through the 427 and the 407. Maple, Concord and Patterson come down the 400. Thornhill is further east and typically routes through the 407. Under normal conditions most Vaughan addresses are twenty five to forty minutes from a terminal door.
Northern Vaughan is spread out, and that is exactly where hired parking becomes expensive. Two weeks in an airport lot costs more than most people expect, and a chauffeured car both ways is usually the more sensible arrangement once the parking, the fuel and the drive home after a red eye are counted honestly. Flights are tracked, so a car adjusts to a delayed landing without anybody making a phone call.
Weddings and the reception halls
Vaughan takes its receptions seriously. Woodbridge and Concord hold one of the largest concentrations of banquet halls in Ontario, along Highway 7 and the roads feeding it, and the events they host tend to be single grand evenings rather than week long programmes. That changes what the transport has to do.
The pressure point is the middle of the day. Between a church ceremony and an evening reception there is a photography window, and Vaughan happens to have unusually good places to spend it. The grounds around the McMichael gallery in Kleinburg, the Kortright and Boyd conservation lands, and the estate golf courses in the north end all sit within a short drive of most halls. We build that stop into the schedule so the party is not being rushed between two venues with a photographer improvising in a parking lot.
Guests are the other half of the job. A Vaughan reception draws people in from across the GTA and often from the airport hotels, and a shuttle arrangement in a Sprinter keeps them off the road afterwards.
Business travel at the Metropolitan Centre and Concord
The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre has grown into a genuine business district, with office towers around the subway terminus and more arriving. It is a straightforward place to serve, and the visitors who come to it usually want the same thing: collection at Pearson, a hotel drop, a full day of meetings and a return to the terminal.
South and east of it, the Concord industrial belt and the corridor along Highway 7 bring a steadier kind of work, with the same suppliers and clients arriving on the same rotations. Corporate accounts get consolidated billing and, where scheduling allows, the same chauffeur for repeat visitors.
Wonderland, Vaughan Mills and family visits
Vaughan is where people bring their families. Canada's Wonderland fills the calendar from spring to autumn, and Vaughan Mills draws shopping trips year round from across the region and from visitors staying near the airport.
Both are better reached in a vehicle somebody else is parking. A group arriving from a downtown hotel or from Pearson in a Sprinter is dropped at the gate and collected at closing, which removes the two worst parts of the day. Kleinburg is a quieter draw, and a village lunch with a gallery visit makes a genuinely pleasant afternoon out for visiting relatives.
Evenings on Highway 7
The dining strip through Woodbridge and along Highway 7 does not need much explaining to anybody who lives here. For a birthday, an anniversary or a group dinner that runs long, one vehicle for the party is simpler than four cars and a designated driver nobody volunteered to be. The same applies to nights that end downtown, which is a long drive back to Maple at one in the morning.
